It's a symbol of cutting ties to wordly things. Not having hair saves some additional time for practice. But once I've read the story about practitioners asking Buddha whether they had to cut their hair away. Buddha answered they had to cut their worldly desires and bad habits away firstly and only then care about shaving the hair. Just a reminder what's most important in our practice and what's not so vital :o).
: do buddhist monks shave their heads? if so, why? is it symbolic for something?
