You may be surprised that once this is out in the open, it won't be so bad. My own mother didn't quite understand what I was taking about but as the years went by and she saw the changes in me, I remember her saying to me one time. Whatever it is that you have been studing and doing all these years made you a better person and I have seen the results. Remember Mother's want their children to be happy and you may take some arguments in the beginning but as you progress on your journey, they will see and feel the changes in you and any mother will be delighted at that. Tim gave you the best way to go about this and was clear so don't be too afraid. You will feel better when its done and all is out in the open. Who knows that by your way of life, they may change themselves. Remember that His Holiness's many visits to the states and many videos have been on the telly and there may be nothing you have to disagree on.
Remember, each of us must choose our own path and you just follow yours.
I don't know when your mother's birthday is or what, but perhaps give her a give of Tara, stature that others refer to as Guan Yen (ms) and when she looks at it, it will remind her of you plus you give her something of protection.
We as mothers only want happiness for our children and we have a different way of looking at things and if our child is happy, then that is what we wish for them.
Don't go into details as it will really cause a ruckus but Buddism ideas are very similiar to Christianity. Best of luck.

Susan

PS Let us know how it works out, I just thought of something, find her a book on His Holiness and give it to her, that will also help.
