This text, originally written in Sir Lanka around 3th century CE. How are sacred time and sacred space created in the ritual of enshrinement? What is the role of the monks, kings and laity in the ceremony? Also, how does the ritual both relfect and reinforce certain attitudes toward the Buddha and his relics? The behavior of the nagas (serpent deities) I think indicate something about the proper response to relics of the Buddha? The symbolism is facinating....just need some clarification. Thanks. Sue
