: I think I have finally distilled this the way I want to ask it: If this life is an illusion, why is any life sacred?

You have been given some good answers but would you have preferred being born in another form of life such a bug, whale or any others we have. It is only in humman form that the MIND is able to function as it does. We are the highest of the species and I am not saying, at times, we are really any better off because we do act like animals. Look at the world and what humans are doing at this moment and what they do to each other.
Your human life was given due to your karmic condition from the past and the opportunity to not waste it. That is your choice with what you do with it. There is purpose in everything but its the MIND that goes along with the body that is the most important thing.
To the gentleman that was very frank in his choice of words, without someone on the other end doing that, you would not have that. What I find so interesting with males, they come from the womb and in making love, tries to return to the womb.
There is nothing wrong in that but I can guanteer you that you can reach higher highs than that on your own, not manually but spiritually.
Get on your knees and say thank you that you are born in human form in this life.
